Monday Motivation:

“And, by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” Sylvia Plath

I plan on doing a video later this month about self doubt and outside haters but this is a good start for that whole topic.

“Everything in life is writable about…” If you’re racking your brains trying to come up with a brilliant story idea, look no farther than your own world. Go to a mall and people watch. Get some ideas just by watching the interactions of the people around you. I’ve heard some people will walk through cemeteries and try to come up with stories about the names on the headstones. Just daily journaling gets you in the practice of writing on a daily basis. And that can open your mind to any number of ideas.

Sometimes, I’ll take an idea in a prompt book or just something that’s been stirring in my brain and I’ll start a freewrite. Just to see what comes of it. It’s how I’ve come up with a majority of my series ideas.

The trick is to let the excitement of this new idea, whatever it may be, stay. Use it as motivation and don’t allow the negativity and doubt to creep in and steal your joy about writing or whatever you’re creating. It’s hard to keep that voice at bay. You might have to call on your support team to pull you from the edge. But, it’s possible.
