Monday Motivation Returns!

Hey everyone, so sorry I haven’t been doing this series lately. Mondays have been a bit rough after busy weekends. But, I’m back and I’m working on sticking to it again. On to this week’s quote!

“I’m writing a first draft and reminding myself that I’m simply shoveling sand into a box so that later I can build castles.” ~Shannon Hale

I’m going to need to remember this when I really start writing book 3. The first draft is so hard sometimes because self doubt can take over so quickly. Even though I’ve written and edited 2 books and a couple short stories, even fan fiction, and I’ve had people read and give positive feedback! But, when I sit down to write a new draft, or get into editing, I still get those moments where I feel like “everything sucks!”

But, I love this. Even when it more feels like I’m shoveling a dirty litter box instead of sand to make sand castles. And, let’s face it. We all have those moments. We hear that horrible little voice. But, we have to remember the accomplishments and the positive. Remember that incredible comment from your beta reader who just raved about the scene that was so hard and emotionally draining to write. Think about typing those glorious final words on your very first manuscript. Then, when that voice creeps in you can say, “No, look at all the stuff I’ve done. I’m pretty good and I can only get better in this path as a writer. This is my dream and I will not let anything get in my way.”
