Motivation Monday- Write and Keep Writing

“Write until it becomes as natural as breathing. Write until not writing makes you anxious.” ~Unknown

I’ve heard this before and I can relate. I hate when I have to go to work or do something else. I get antsy and I have one thought on my mind. “I could be writing right now.” It’s hard when I get up early and fall into my routine for a set amount of hours and all my momentum has to come to a halt so I can go to work.

Saturday night, I stayed up way too late because I had an idea for a story I couldn’t get out of my head. I knew I had to get up early Sunday morning. And, I’d have an hour less sleep because of the stupid time change. But, I knew I wouldn’t be able to fall asleep until I at least started this story idea. Once I got a couple pages down, the adrenaline had worn off and I was able to fall asleep.

But, I think this is what it means to be truly passionate about something. When you’re not doing what you love every moment you can, life just doesn’t seem to go right. You keep thinking about what you could be doing instead. If you’re an artist, you’re getting ideas for your next painting or drawing. If you’re a wedding photographer, you’re thinking about when your next event is and how you can help the couple remember their day. If you’re a writer, you probably have a notebook on hand at all times to jot down ideas the first chance you get.

And, when you finally get to sit down and do your work, you’re at ease. We have our particular spots where we work. I have a table set up in the living room with books and papers all over the place so I don’t completely take over my husband’s office. Sometimes, I work in bed… even if it means I’m a bear in the morning. Joe has to bribe me with coffee. But, as long as I know I can get up and do what I love each day, once I have my shower and breakfast smoothie, I can settle in with my coffee and get to work.

How do you feel when you’re not writing or working somehow on your passion?
