The Writing Community Comes Together

I’ve been meaning to talk about this for a while. Ever since things started to limit because of the Covid-19 Pandemic, we’ve all had to adjust to life being different. And, as it seems like the world becomes ever more divisive, one group that has been uniting in all this has been the writing community.

There is such a fantastic community on AuthorTube and they have been uniting to support each other in the best way I’ve ever seen. One of my friends from a writing group on Discord started hosting livestreams every week on her YouTube channel. I was fortunate enough to guest host on one of these a few weeks ago and it was so much fun! We spend a couple hours cheering each other on while getting work done. And, through this I have joined other livestreams on other channels. We’ve subscribed to channels and social media platforms, supported book releases, and lifted each other during struggles of life.

And, it’s not just on YouTube. There are great Facebook groups for writers. Instagram, other writers support each other. I’ve been a member of a fantastic Discord group and made some wonderful friends over 2 years.

People from all over the world come together through technology to share their passion for story telling. It’s our dream job, our creative outlet, our therapy. I’ve met people in England, all over Europe, Australia, and the US. We are different races, religions, sexualities, gender identities, family backgrounds, professions, but our love of writing unites us. We learn and embrace those other differences in a time where the rest of the world scorns what doesn’t fit “the mold,” whatever that may be in your society more than ever.

What are your experiences in the writing community? Have you had positive ones? Have you had to leave groups that were toxic or only revolved around self-promotion?

Have a good week. Stay safe, stay healthy, and be kind.
